Government Department

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Queensland

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) provides leadership for the growth and sustainable development of the food, fibre, fishing and forestry industries to optimise their contribution to economic, environmental and social outcomes for Queensland.

We undertake world-class research, development and extension (RD&E) to deliver real impacts for Queensland’s agriculture and food industries. Our programs align with the government’s Agriculture and Food Research, Development and Extension 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan.

To achieve our goals, we manage community resources by applying science to improve production and products, leading the fight on animal and plant pests and diseases, and working constructively with stakeholders for mutual benefit.

Our work makes a significant contribution to the Queensland Government’s objectives for the community through our strategies and service delivery initiatives. We operate in more than 90 locations across the state. Around 68% of our staff live and work in locations outside Brisbane’s central business district, contributing to Queensland’s vibrant regional communities.
